Renovation of the permanent exhibition rooms

National museum of San Carlos

The renovation of the permanent exhibition started with the Gothic Art room. It was decided that the wooden art pieces needed a different protection than the one they had. This was the perfect moment to change the design of the room itself. I decided to create a microclimate for each piece, enclosing them in an individual vitrine with treatment for humidity.

Because the pieces seemed to be further away from the visitor, I decided to create an atmosphere in which the audience could feel ‘closer’ to the art. Most of the paintings had golden frames and golden details so the use of a dark color was necessary to highlight those features. However, I wanted a color that gave warmth to the room. I chose a dark wine color and in combination with a warm led lightning we achieved an elegant and cozy atmosphere.
